ACCEPTED ITEMS: Expired or unwanted prescriptions, over-the-counter, vitamins/supplements, or pet medication. DO NOT BRING: Intravenous solutions, prefilled injections, syringes, or medical waste.
- Keep medications in their containers or place in a sealed plastic bag - no loose tablets in drop box
- Mark out name and address information on labels
Why do we incinerate old medications?
- Medications tossed in garbage end up in the soil or leach into our drinking water
- DO NOT FLUSH Most medications cannot be filtered out by Wastewater Plant technology
- Old medications end up in the wrong hands through theft or accident
If you choose to dispose of medication at home follow these steps to prevent hazards:
- Mix medicines (liquid or pills) with a substance such as dirt, cat litter, or used coffee grounds
- Place the mixture in a sealed container or plastic bag
- Throw away the container in your trash
Program is made possible through the cooperation of City of Newberg Public Works Division and Newberg-Dundee Police along with Waste Management Inc.
