About Wastewater Treatment
WWTP

The City of Newberg employees operate a 4.0 million gallons per day (MGD) oxidation ditch wastewater treatment plant. It was built 1987, but the plant has undergone various infrastructure upgrades between 2009-2016.

We treat approximately 2.5 MGD of raw wastewater from the sewer collections system during the dry months - May through October - and approximately 5.0 MGD from November through April. Peak flows can occasionally reach 15-25 MGD during heavy rain events.

In 2023, plant staff oversaw the successful chemical and biological treatment of 1.29 billion gallons of raw wastewater. In addition, we recovered 600 dry tons of nutrient-rich Biosolids that were turned into a Class A compost in our unique in-vessel composter.

The plant also supplies Chehalem Glenn Golf Course with 300,000-500,000 gallons per day of Class A Recycled Water that is used to irrigate their greens during the late spring and summer months.
