(NEWBERG, OR) – The City of Newberg is once again inviting our youngest residents to put their creativity to work, this time to help name our brand-new conventional street sweeper!Middle school-aged students and younger are encouraged to stop by the Newberg Public Library throughout the month of November to submit their most imaginative name ideas. Whether it’s clever, funny, or just plain cool, we want to hear it!
After the submission period ends, the top five finalist names will be selected and put to a community-wide vote via an online form during December. Make sure you follow the city on Facebook or Instagram so you don’t miss your opportunity to vote. The winning name will be revealed in a special announcement - details coming soon!
Public Works Director Russ Thomas launched this contest to celebrate the arrival of our new gas-powered street sweeper, which will work alongside our electric sweeper, “Sweeping Beauty”, a name chosen by local students Georgia and Eleanor in last year’s contest. Naming contests like this are a fun way to shine a spotlight on the important work our Public Works team does every day, often behind the scenes, to keep Newberg clean and beautiful.
Here’s How to Participate:
• Who can enter? Middle school-aged students and younger
• Where to submit? In person at the Newberg Public Library
• When? All through November
• Voting: Community voting on the top 5 names will take place in December
Questions?• For contest details, stop by the Newberg Public Library or email: library@newbergoregon.gov
• For questions about the street sweeper itself, contact Russ Thomas at russ.thomas@newbergoregon.gov
Let’s get creative, Newberg! Your idea could be the next name rolling through our streets!
