CURRENT STATUS:
The intersection of N Main and Illinois will see a temporary closure with traffic bollards beginning on September 15, 2025. The intersection will be closed to motor vehicle traffic only - pedestrian and bicycle traffic will still be allowed through. A more permanent closure will be considered for the future.
This project is named I-14 in the Transportation System Plan (TSP).

Public Outreach
This occurred on Wednesday October 25, 2023 at the Chehalem Cultural Center Ballroom, 415 E Sheridan Street. It quickly became clear that a full study could cost ratepayers north of $100,000 and provide results that were impossible to execute in our current operating environment.

STATUS UPDATES
Due to ongoing changes in staffing and budget concerns, the council and administration team has provided direction to cancel the N Main at Illinois (HWY 240) Intersection Study project. A pivot to a less expensive trial closure of the intersection was suggested as an alternative approach.
October 5/2023 - Postcard notification for the N Main Street at Illinois (HWY 240) Intersection open house were mailed on 10/25/2023 to property owners and residents in the general area of this project.
August 31, 2023 - Initial outreach and project survey notification letter mailed to property owners and residents in the general area of this project.
In 2024 a drop in session occurred at the public library to test public opinion on the showcasing the concept of a trial closure - it was found to be positive. The intersection is scheduled to be closed on September 8 2025.
